| Survey two - News Limited sections research |
|
News Limited will commence survey two of sections research next month.
The research will include our new national sections Taste, Switched On and Hit as well as News, Sport and BusinessDaily. Carsguide, Home magazine, Property, our daily entertainment pages, Play and Weekend will also be covered.
Victorian advertising agencies and clients have been presented insights on a range of Herald Sun sections from survey one. Mindshare Director of Business Planning Angela Feruglio said: "One of the key benefits of the research is it details engagement levels and stickiness of the various sections. This escalates the current metrics for newspapers in the market, and starts the ball rolling for clients and agencies to compare papers with online news sites."
Results reveal men are highly engaged with the sport section and read it for an average of 20 minutes each day and over 90 per cent of women read the Sunday Herald Sun health section body+soul. More than 1.2 million Victorians read the tvguide and 1.1 million read the Sunday travel section Escape.
Mediacom's Research & Strategy Director Jeremy Sankey said: "We've always known that people read their paper differently. What this research does is add a degree of rigour to planning how to use different sections to reach different audiences. Using the research we can ensure that we can get the best ad in the best section."
This research proves we are making the right editorial investments and giving readers what they want.

| Competition results - Starcom, OMD and Mediacom |
|
Fake malthouse moustaches. Funny 'tackle' quotes. And 'free falling' footy players have had us in stitches.
These are just some of the quotes we've received for our inaugural Herald Sun footy caption competition.
The competition kicked off in June in the top 10 media agencies in Melbourne. Footy photos were displayed on the Mediai network and staff had the opportunity to submit a caption to win a Yamaha digital radio.
Chris Carey from Starcom (pictured), Adam Dren from Mediacom and Leisel Roberts from OMD were the first three lucky winners.
More radios will be up for grabs shortly. Stay tuned!

| Switching On wine sales |
|
Online wine supplier Get Wines Direct recently ran a campaign in the Herald Sun's technology section Switched On.
And they haven't looked back.
Having previously advertised in The Age for many years Get Wines Direct recognised the need to change their marketing strategy if they were to increase sales.
Get Wines Direct Marketing Manager Kerry Heath said: "We wanted a really strong advertising campaign that would drive subscriptions and sales and Herald Sun Switched On provided us with a highly targeted environment to do just that. The campaign has worked a treat. Sales have already surpassed our target for the quarter and we are up 20 per cent on last year."
To advertise in Switched On please contact Tony Bradvica, features sales manager, on 03 9292 2527 or email

| Commonwealth Games and Australian Masters preview guides |
|
As the footy finals fast approach, two other big sporting events are waiting in the wings. The 2010 Commonwealth Games and the JBWere Australian Masters Golf.
The Herald Sun will publish special preview guides in the preceding weeks with all the event details.
The Commonwealth Games Preview Guide will be supported by an experienced editorial team who will cover Australia's medal hopes and scheduling, the facilities and a comprehensive sport overview as well as great moments from the past and scheduling.
The Australian Masters Preview Guide will cover every angle of the tournament including world class players Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Camillo Villegas and Geoff Ogilvy. Last year's outbreak of Tigermania pumped an estimated $34 million into Victoria's economy, with more than 106,000 fans attending the sell-out four-day event.
News Limited's News Custom Publishing specialist magazine division will also publish the JBWere Masters Official Souvenir Program and there will be extensive coverage on heraldsun.com.au

| Herald Sun spikes visitor numbers by 20 per cent |
|
For the past four years the Master Builders' Building & Home Improvement Expo has enjoyed a successful partnership with the Herald Sun.
And this year was no exception.
Australian Exhibitions and Conferences Managing Director Marie Kinsella said: "We would like to thank your team for assisting us in the delivery of another successful event. We achieved a record attendance this year with visitor numbers up by approximately 20 per cent and have had extensive feedback from exhibitors reporting they met quality buyers over the three days. We have always enjoyed a positive and proactive working relationship with the Herald Sun team and this year was no exception. Our dates for next year have been confirmed as Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17 2011 and we look forward to working with your team again for another strong event."
In 2010 close to 25,000 visitors attended the event in Melbourne to catch a glimpse of the best new products for their building and renovating projects.
