Herald Sun iPhone app gallops out the gate
The Herald Sun SuperRacing iPhone app is live. And if it's anything like other Herald Sun apps, it's going to be big.

"Awesome app! So easy to use and always up to date! Can't wait to use it during Melbourne Cup week," wrote one satisfied punter.

Herald Sun integration and commercial projects manager Spencer Retallack said: "The app is designed to cover Victoria's spring racing season, which runs for two months. It includes TAB odds, tips, and a dictionary of racing terms as well as live racing updates such as late scratchings and changing odds."

Retailing at just $3.99 and sponsored by TAB, this is the first iPhone app from News Limited to carry advertising.

In addition the Herald Sun SuperRacing website covers race tips, news live from the track, silks, trainers, barriers and weights, races about to jump around the country and race finishes.

Click here to download the app.

10 big names, 10 little books
The Herald Sun Mini Cookbook Collection - one of our biggest promotions for 2010 - is cooking up a storm.

Available with purchase of the Herald Sun and Sunday Herald Sun, the 10-part series includes close to 250 recipes from big names such as Jamie Oliver, Stephanie Alexander, Donna Hay and Matt Moran.

And it's already proving a hit with readers. The series evolved via a marketing collaboration with Penguin Books and Donna Hay and covers all manner of fantastic cuisine from beautiful Australian, Italian, Spanish, French and Chinese cookery to delectable sweet treats.

To launch the collection, we are using a mini version of both British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and Australia's very own Gary Mehigan in TVCs which will be complemented by press, cinema, radio and in-newsagent POS advertising, supported by PR. The promotion will run until October 29 with a different mini cookbook available each day.

The Herald Sun boasts an extensive food product offering including Taste (Tuesday), Taste page (M-F), Weekend (Saturday) and Sunday Food. And taste.com.au is the place where visitors can browse through more than 20,000 recipes.

Far East Consortium rapt with Property
Property development group Far East Consortium wanted to make a big splash for the launch of their residential project - Upper West Side (marketed by Colliers International) in West Melbourne.

And they did it by wrapping the real estate section, Property, in Saturday's Herald Sun.

Drawing on inspiration from Think Outside the Rectangle - News Limited's book of creative ideas - Far East Consortium ran a high-impact four-page wrap (as pictured) around the Property section.

This was a first for the section and created a high-impact advertising solution. In addition other developers noticed the creative execution and have made enquiries direct to Herald Sun and via media agencies.

To advertise in Property please contact Scott Bremner, sales manager, on 03 9292 1520 or email bremners@hwt.com.au

Partnership is all about the design
The Herald Sun has once again proven it is the ideal print media partner with record numbers achieved at this year's State of Design Festival.

Now in its seventh year, the festival increases awareness of the value of design, and showcases how design generates innovation, promotes sustainability and adds value to business and society.

This year's program - Change - included trade fairs, talks, workshops, exhibitions and awards throughout Melbourne and regional centers around Victoria.

Festival creative director Kate Rhodes said: "We are very pleased to report that 2010 Festival attendance, press coverage and website traffic is all up on 2009. We thank you for being part of it and especially your media support."

For information on partnerships please contact Kylie Pritchard, HWT partnerships and major events manager, on 03 9292 2741 or email pritchardk@hwt.com.au

Breaking the Brownlow record
Heraldsun.com.au traffic peaked on the AFL's night of nights - the 2010 Brownlow medal.

By 2pm the day following the medal count, more than 8.7 million page impressions were clocked up on the dedicated Herald Sun Brownlow page; an increase of around 30% from 2009. Average daily page impressions for the whole site are 3.3 million demonstrating the popularity of this event.

Chief digital officer Peter Clark said: "It has shattered every record. The results are a great example of how well print and online work together. Leading up to the event we communicated with readers about what to expect online and when to expect it."

A team of 19 reporters worked around the clock to produce the sensational coverage.
